Topic: Resource Scarcity in 2030
Topic Summary
In 2030 the world population has reached 8.3 billion people. Many countries have been struggling with meeting the basic needs for their population and controlling the crisis, specifically the South Asian and Sub-Sahara African areas. This exponential population growth, has led to a worldwide necessity of an increase of about 50% in food and energy production and 30% of fresh water. This necessity is not only unattainable, but with the prevailing issue of overpopulation reaching its climax this year, contamination and spreading diseases have become unbearable. The previous efforts made by most of the nations to mitigate the effects of climate change and to diminish the soaring emissions of greenhouse gasses have not been effective to prevent them either. Consequently, the ripple effect produced has only led to the decline of life expectancy, given the growing presence of diseases like Malaria and Dengue fever in temperate climates whose temperatures have gone out of control as well.
This situation is forcing each country to search for different solutions depending on their specific situation and necessities. Drastic measures need to be taken to tackle this issue but keeping in mind the risk of human rights infringement.
Each delegate will be expected to be familiarized with their county’s specific resource capacity and the extent that their population will be affected, as well as determine different solutions to solve the crisis.
